資料・期間 　  研究資料として様々な文献や史料（古記録、刊本、表）などから読みとった西暦1661年から1892年にかけての日本各地の天気情報を収録してあります。但し、年代によって示される地点が限られます。また、収録期間は将来変更することがあります。研究資料ですが、教育・学習にも役立つと思い一部をWEB化しました。

DB上の表現 　  多くの記述は一日の間の天気変化を追っては書いてありません。その記述の内容・程度は様々です。テキストから直接に天気をDB上で判断して表現することは、どのような表現があるか不明で困難です。多出する天気記述を類型化、コード化した上で、天気分布図、天気表として、表現してあります。

 WEB上の表現     画面上で「良い天気」「悪い天気」と表現しているのは「晴れ」を「最も良い天気」雪を「最も悪い天気」として天気記号の上から下に順に従って、一日の天気がどの範囲に入るかを示す ものとして使用しています。ある日の「良い天気」の図に示され天気記号は、場所によっては明け方、別の場所では昼間、また夕方や夜の天気である場合があります。現在の天気図のように同時刻のものではないことを付け加えておきます。

 おことわり   データは現在も収集中であり、かなり念を入れてチェックしたつもりですが誤りが皆無とは言い切れません。そのためデータが断りなく変更されることがあります。

 元資料   天気記述をコード化したことで、元データの情報の一部しか生かされていない場合があります。詳細を知りたい場合は資料目録により原典を参照してください。

閲覧など   表示される画像（天気分布図・表）の著作権は吉村にあります。出版物、論文などに引用する場合は出典を明記してください。利用の程度により共著者として頂く場合もあります。また、利用したことによるいかなる損害に対しても、作成者は責任をとりません。自己責任でご利用ください。

Brief introduction to HWDB
Document and term 　  This database shows daily and monthly weather conditions over Japan betwwen the latter half of Edo era. and eary Maiji. The data covers theperiod from 1661 to 1892. The information was however recorded from various locations over the years.

DB notation 　  The databaseis based on material that was originally recorded in various historical documents, including diaries, charts, and otherprinted material.

 WEB notation     The historical records often did not detail weather changes that occurred on the same day. Descriptions used in the weather records vary from document to document. Owing to the absence of uniformity in the description of weather across various materials, the information was categorised according to the most commonly used descriptions. This was then coded and presented on the weather distribution map and weather chart.

 Disclaimer   Weather recordings were taken at different times of the day across at different locations on the same date does not necessarily mean that these locations shared 'fine’ weather simultaneously.

 Reference Documents   Please also note that some of the recorded information could not be coded, and was therefore excluded from the database. This information has however been included in the reference.
